More Women Earn AIA Arthur Paulin Scholarships

AIA has announced that it has awarded 13 Arthur Paulin Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship Awards for 2002. The scholarship recipients are pursuing automotive careers from automotive service technician to automotive marketing and business diplomas.
Of note, 4 of the 13 scholarship recipients are female. “AIA is pleased to welcome more women into the aftermarket,” says AIA President Ray Datt. “AIA saw a rise in the number of female applicants this year over previous years. While the automotive industry is traditionally seen as a male dominated industry, AIA and its members know that it provides great career oportunities for everyone, especially those who enjoy working in a fast-paced, high technology environment. The aftermarket also recognizes that over 30% of vehicle maintainers are female and that the industry needs
to better represent the population in its workforce.”

Each Arthur Paulin Scholarship recipient receives $700 to pursue their studies in an automotive aftermarket industry related program at a Canadian college or university.
A minimum of five Arthur Paulin scholarships are awarded annually. Each of the following four regions receives at least one scholarship: Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada. The fifth scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing studies at the Canadian Automotive Institute (CAI).

This year, additional awards were made available through the generosity of AIA members through their AIA Divisions, which made special contributions to the scholarship fund. Contributing Divisions include:

additional scholarships to deserving students,” continues AIA President Raymond Datt. “It is a wonderful feeling to be able to encourage these young people as they pursue their studies in this dynamic industry. If these students are any indication of the calibre of young people currently
joining the aftermarket, the industry has a bright and prosperous future.”

Principal of Fund Grows
The principal of the Arthur Paulin Scholarship Award Fund also grew this year thanks to the generous contribution of Albert J. Blair. The funds were raised through the sale of the A.J. Blair book “A View from the Running
Board”. Mr. Blair generously donated the proceeds from the sale of the book to the scholarship fund. AIA is currently in its third printing of the book. “A View from the Running Board” recounts A.J. Blair’s personal story
of success in the aftermarket and chronicles the evolution of the automotive aftermarket industry.

The Arthur Paulin Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship Awards (formerly known as the Scholarship Trust Fund Awards) were established in 1986 as a result of the commitment and monetary support of AIA members companies. Interest on the principal in the fund is used to award the minimum of five scholarships each year. The continued support of AIA members and the fundraising efforts of the AIA Divisions have allowed this program to continue to grow and prosper, thereby allowing a large number of deserving students to pursue their automotive studies.

Contributions in Memory of aftermarketers who have passed away also help to grow the Arthur Paulin Scholarship Fund.

The Arthur Paulin Automotive Scholarship Award was named after long time AIA volunteer Arthur Paulin. President, H. Paulin and Company Limited. A former AIA Chairman of the Board, Arthur Paulin was a teacher and mentor to all who
knew him. His commitment and dedication to the industry is fondly remembered by ensuring that young people are attracted to careers in the automotive industry.
