Skills Ontario and Magna partner up for skill development programs

Magna International has partnered with Skills Ontario to help support the Skills Ontario Competition and other programs that the company offers.

Magna will be giving Skills Ontario $125,000 in investment towards the 2018 Skills Ontario Competition, Skills Ontario Young Women’s Initiatives, and Skills Ontario Summer Camps. The investment will help accommodate students who want to participate in the different skill development programs.

The investment will add on to Skills Ontario investment of $100,000 in 2017 that supported experimental learning, skill development, and mentorship opportunities for over 3,000 youth across Ontario through Skills Ontario and Young Women’s Initiatives and Summer Camps.

Magna International will have a large presence at the 2018 Skills Ontario Competition by hosting an interactive exhibit for all in attendance, as well as offering jobs to medalists in the Automation and Control, Industrial Millwright Mechanic, and Mechatronics contests.

The past two winners of the mechatronics competition went on to compete at WorldSkills 2017 and won bronze. They are currently working for Magna International in the Exteriors groups, having received job offers as part of their medal placing at the Skills Ontario Competition.

The 2018 Skills Ontario Competition took place May 7-9 at the Toronto Congress Centre.
