The market continues to inch upwards as new light vehicle sales in Canada breached another all-time monthly sales record in June.
Despite the slight 1.2% sales growth over the previous year, the 177,857 new vehicles purchased by Canadians in the previous month represents the best June on record.
The biggest winners of the month with above 25 percent year-over-year growth were Land Rover (+ 28.2 percent), Acura (+ 27.6 percent), Porsche (+25.9 percent), and Lexus (25.8 percent), as the ongoing gains being enjoyed by luxury manufacturers in the Canadian market turned into a veritable feast in June. From the full line manufacturers, GM (+15.3 percent), Nissan (+10.1 percent) and Toyota (+9.1 percent) all enjoyed a strong month.
There was no discernable pattern in the brands that witnessed the largest year-over-year declines with smart (-68.2 percent), Hyundai (-21.6 percent), Jaguar (-14.7 percent), Ford (-13.2 percent) and Kia (-10.3 percent) showing double digit decreases.
MINI leads the year-to-date growth figures with a 46.2 percent jump followed by Porsche (+32.1 percent), Lexus (+22.2 percent) and Volkswagen (+20.8 percent).
