AIA releases 2014 compensation study

Cover ShotThe Automotive Industries Association (AIA) of Canada has released the results of its 2014 Compensation and Benefit Survey, which examines human resource practices in the automotive aftermarket industry.

“Salaries and benefits are among the most important factors in attracting and retaining employees,” says Andrew Shepherd, AIA Canada’s senior director for industry programs. “They also influence labour mobility and overall industry competitiveness. This benchmarking study is a key baseline measurement for the automotive aftermarket.”

The study was produced for AIA Canada by HayGroup in collaboration with eight of Canada’s largest national automotive aftermarket companies, including Canadian Tire, Mr. Lube, and Fountain Tire.

HayGroup collected data on five employment positions in the aftermarket, with an eye to determining industry standards.

The professions are automotive service technician, shipper-receiver, parts counterperson, outside sales person (field staff for jobbers/distributors), and parts store manager.

The 23-page report covers pay rates, vacation time, and other benefits. AIA Canada plans to repeat the survey at regular intervals to track the direction of HR policies in the automotive aftermarket industry.

The 2014 Compensation and Benefits Survey results are available to all AIA members free of charge. Members can access the report by logging onto AIA’s website with their email address and password and visiting the publications page. The study is also available for purchase to non-members on AIA’s website.

HayGroup has over 4,000 employees in 86 offices in 49 countries. The consulting firm has collected HR data from over 125 countries.
