Recently released products in the heavy duty oil and filter space include a new oil absorbant mat from Design Engineering, a new line of heavy duty oils from Petro-Canada Lubricants, a new cleanable filter from Mann+Hummel, and a new heavy duty filtration line from Baldwin.
Welcome to Auto Service World’s Category Focus, looking at recent announcements from automotive aftermarket tool makers, parts manufacturers, and distributors.
Heavy duty air filters
Baldwin Filters has launched EnduraPanel air filter technology, offering high filtration efficiency and maximum capacity in a rugged, compact design.
According to Baldwin, what sets these filters apart is their ability to withstand extended periods of vibration and high temperatures without rips, tears, or other structural failures. Part way through a normal life cycle, competitive products frequently show signs of failure, meaning that contamination is passing through or around the filter media and reaching the engine. EnduraPanel air filters, up to 50% smaller than conventional air filters, provide effective protection for heavy-duty equipment throughout the entire service interval, without fail.
“EnduraPanel’s single and dual element designs provide the maximum amount of filter media with ample air flow, even when space is at a premium,” says Baldwin’s head of product management and engineering, Steve Zimmerman.
The EnduraPanel line includes primary and secondary filters. The proprietary horizontal pleat formation allows the media to be solidly embedded into the end cap, reducing the number of possible leak paths. A high-strength injection molded frame and expanded metal support provide superior strength to prevent structural failure or media pack collapse.
Cleanable filtration housing
Mann+Hummel has introduced a new air filter for commercial vehicles under its Mann-Filter product brand, with a sealing lip at the lower end plate.
Mann+Hummel has already started series production of the highly efficient air filter for a commercial vehicle manufacturer. The new filter is available in original equipment quality in the independent automotive aftersales market for different Scania NCG trucks as the Mann-Filter C 25 024.
The air filter is changed by pulling the filter upwards out of the housing, releasing an opening at the bottom of the housing. If the filter housing is so badly soiled that it needs to be rinsed with water, the impurities can simply drain through this opening.
The new filter is inserted with the help of a mechanical guide to ensure that it is securely seated in the correct position.
“In order for the air filter system to be tight again during operation, we developed a sealing lip in the bottom end plate of the Mann-Filter C 25 024 air filter that seals the dirt discharge opening,” says Pascal Neef, engineer in automotive aftermarket air filters at Mann+Hummel.
Mann+Hummel has registered a patent for the connection between the end plate and housing. The innovative air filter offers good water stability, a separation efficiency of 99.9% with ISO-certified test dust, and a dirt holding capacity of up to 2.2 pounds of particulate matter. A spiral wound strip ensures grip protection through its tight winding in the upper filter area.
It also stabilizes the folds to prevent them “packeting” (clumping together in a block) during operation so that the full filter surface area is maintained. The metal-free filter element means that the new C 25 024 is completely incinerable, and thus permits environmentally friendly disposal.
New 15W-40 and 10W-30 oils
Petro-Canada Lubricants (PCL) has a new and improved Duron Geo LD product line, consisting of SAE 15W-40 and SAE 10W-30 grade lubricants.
PCL has announced that both oils are API CK-4 licensed and approved for the latest Cummins natural gas engine oil specification CES 20092. Approved by major diesel engine OEMs such as Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Mack, and Volvo, these innovative lubricants deliver a complete solution for mixed fleets that include mobile natural gas engines.
“Duron Geo LD is an exciting new innovative product specifically designed to meet and exceed the needs of fleets that operate compressed natural gas and liquified natural gas vehicles, while also offering performance suitable for diesel and gasoline powered engines.” said Barnaby Ngai, category manager for heavy duty engine and driveline oils, at Petro-Canada Lubricants.
Duron Geo LD has been field tested and proven to safely extend oil drain intervals up to 1200 hours, without the risk of increased engine wear or reduced performance. This allows fleets to maximize their time on the road.
